[ARCHIVED] St. Charles Man Charged With Criminal Trespassing After Entering Geneva Home

A 44-year-old St. Charles man was arrested by Geneva Police this morning after allegedly breaking into a home in the 2900 block of Adamson Drive.

John C. Reed has been charged with two felony counts of criminal trespassing and resisting a peace officer and one misdemeanor count of criminal damage to property.

At 5:28 a.m. Feb. 5, police officers were dispatched to the home after Reed was allegedly seen breaking a window to gain entry into the residence. A previous dispatch a few minutes earlier was made in reference to a person, which police later identified to be Reed, walking down the street requesting assistance, stating “Help, help, call 911.”

Upon arriving at the home, police found Reed inside the residence allegedly wielding two butcher-type knives, which belonged to the homeowner. Officers instructed the man to drop the knives, which he complied.

However, after dropping the knives, Reed allegedly began to resist the officer’s commands and struck the officers, according to police. Eventually the man was taken into custody and transported to the Geneva Police Department and later to Delnor Hospital for issues unrelated to the arrest.

One officer was injured during the incident.

During the altercation, there were four residents in the home with one running out of the residence prior to police arriving. None of the residents were injured.
