The Geneva Fire Department will continue to flow test fire hydrants on the City’s east side Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 29-30.

The department had hoped to finish testing hydrants this week in areas east of the Fox River, but firefighters were pulled off the project to respond to emergency calls. The operations, which are done in cooperation with the Geneva Public Works Department, will resume next week between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The tests not only provide valuable information on water supplies available for firefighting, but also are used to determine where upgrades to the water supply system may be needed.

Residents might experience rust in the water during or immediately after the testing. The water is safe; however, people should refrain from doing laundry until the water is clear. If rusty water discolors clothes while being laundered, keep the garments wet and contact the Public Works Department at 630-232-1501 to request a rust-removing solution packet.
