[ARCHIVED] Winter Operations Update

******Jan. 2*****
Our Public Works crews have been working around the clock the last 48 hours, and we're hopefully seeing this storm wind down to a close. Plows are in "clean-up mode," which means returning to residential areas to clear streets to the curb. Please keep your parked cars off the roadway.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory for Kane County from 9 p.m. tonight through 10 a.m. Friday. Temperatures are expected to drop between -8 to -18 below zero, and the wind chill will make it feel like it is -15 to -25. Make sure you dress warmly if you have to be outdoors tonight.

******Jan. 1*****
The Winter Weather Advisory has been extended until midnight as more snow is expected to reach our area tonight.

The City's entire snow plowing crew has been hitting the streets today to keep driving conditions as good as possible given the constant snowfall. The focus has been keeping snow routes clear, but plows have started to pass through residential areas to clear a path for motorists.

Plows will be working throughout the evening. Once the snow stops, snow routes will be finished and plows will head back to residential neighborhoods. Please be patient as our Public Works Department clears 244 lane miles throughout the City.

Please use caution when driving, and keep your parked cars off the streets. Thank you.

******Dec. 31*****
The first storm system appears to have moved through our area. Our Public Works crews were plowing throughout the evening, and are expected to have both primary snow routes and residential streets completed this morning.

This may only be temporary given that another snow system is expected to develop later today that could produce several more inches of snow. The total snow fall, including last night, could reach up to 6 inches. The Winter Weather Advisory still is in place until 6 p.m. tonight, so please be careful when traveling.

With more snow coming, please leave your parked cars off the streets today.
