[ARCHIVED] City's Electric Provider Asking Consumers To Conserve Power Jan. 28

PJM Interconnection, the electricity grid operator for Geneva, is asking consumers to conserve electricity on Tuesday, Jan. 28. The call for conservation is prompted by the continued frigid weather that will push up demand for electricity.

PJM asks consumers to conserve electricity, if health permits - especially from 6 to 10 a.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. Jan. 28. Electricity customers can take simple electricity conservation steps:

* Set thermostats lower than usual, if health permits;

* Postpone using major electric appliances such as stoves, dishwashers and clothes dryers until mid-day or 9 p.m., when the demand for electricity decreases; and

* Turn off electric lights and appliances that you do not need or are not using.

The City of Geneva and PJM appreciate your consideration and will continue to carefully monitor power supply conditions.

Residents who have questions can call the City's Public Works Electric Division at 630-232-1503.
