More than 40 films from across the globe will hit the big screen in March as part of the seventh annual Geneva Film Festival.

Tickets are now on sale for the event, which will take place Thursday to Saturday, March 6 to 8, at Dodson Place located at the corner of Second and Fulton streets. Cinema fans will enjoy a variety of films originating from the United States, Canada, Europe, Brazil, India and more. Tickets are $5 per block, $10 per day and $15 for an all-festival pass.

“Every year we try and raise the bar in the quality of films we select for our festival, and this year was no different,” Geneva Film Festival Executive Director Scott Rolf said. “With more than 100 films submitted, it was easy to elevate the cut-off point and select only the very top-rated films for each category. With such a diverse offering of genres and subject matter, there is definitely something for everyone at the 2014 Geneva Film Festival.”

One of the unique aspects of the festival is that patrons have plenty of opportunities to meet with the producers and directors of selected films. Festival goers also will help choose the winning films in various categories. Other festival highlights include:

• Student Night, March 6 – Students with an ID receive a free t-shirt (while supplies last) and half off on all-festival or single day passes.
• Filmmaker’s Roundtable, 9 a.m. March 8 – Start the day with a free continental breakfast and learn about the filmmaking process and challenges faced when producing an independent film.
• ‘It’s a Wrap’ Party, 9:30 p.m. March 8 – The closing celebration will be held at Wildwood Restaurant, 477 S. Third St. The event will feature live music, and patrons will be able to meet with Mayor Kevin Burns, film producers, directors and actors.

Started in 2007, the Geneva Film Festival has grown in popularity and status in the independent film festival community. Many of these award-winning films are picked up by production companies and shown on cable television. The mission of the Geneva Film Festival is to celebrate the art of film making by setting the stage for independent filmmakers to showcase their talent to the world. The event is sponsored by the Geneva Cultural Arts Commission.
