The Western Avenue railroad crossing in Geneva will be closed Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28-29 as Union Pacific makes repairs to the train tracks.
Construction crews will be pulling the railroad pads and replacing the rail throughout the crossing. The crossing will be shut down to both cars and pedestrians from 9 a.m. Sept. 28 to 6 p.m. Sept. 29.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area. Union Pacific has established an official detour route map (please disregard the inaccurate compass listed on the Union Pacific map) for drivers traveling north on Western Avenue to go:
- West on Fabyan Parkway;
- North on Randall Road
- East on South Street;
- East on Kaneville Road;
- South on Burgess Road; and
- East on South Street.
The detour is reversed for those heading west on South Street approaching Western Avenue. Residents also can use Third Street to cross the tracks.
Any future project updates will be posted to the City’s website.
