[ARCHIVED] Geneva Flag Lowered For Former Community Development Director

City Hall Flag Lowered

The Geneva flag at City Hall has been lowered in memory of Michael Donahue, who served as the City's Community Development Director and was a Kane County Board member.

A 1979 Geneva High School graduate, Mr. Donahue played an integral role in the establishment of the Prairie Green Preserve during his tenure with the City.

The former Kane County Board member initiated efforts to reimagine the Settler's Hill landfill to become a nationally-recognized championship-level cross country course, which is currently under development.

He also was a successful entrepreneur when he helped found Midwest Wind Energy LCC.

On the philanthropy side, Mr. Donahue served as of the annual Marklund Top Hat Gala. He also was the vice president of the Freedom Water Foundation, whose mission is to enhance the lives of individuals with special needs and veterans by providing therapeutic boat experiences in Florida.

Mr. Donahue died Dec. 12. Services are pending.

The City expresses its condolences to the Donahue family on its loss.
