[ARCHIVED] City's Fleet Maintenance Supervisor Wins APWA Honor

Public Works News

The American Public Works Association's Fox Valley Branch has selected Geneva's Joe Czysczon as its 2020 Professional Manager of the Year Award - Public Fleet category.

Czysczon was hired as the City's Fleet Maintenance Supervisor in 2017 to help modernize the division. He has saved the City money by updating vehicle lifts and commonly use tools, which has allowed City staff to perform more repair work in-house for fire trucks, loaded salt trucks and other large equipment opposed to farming them out to a contractor.

Czysczon established a comprehensive maintenance schedule that now requires all City vehicles and equipment to be inspected a minimum of twice a year. He also worked to have the City be certified in the state's Safety Lane Vehicle Inspection program, which saves significant staff time and money on an annual basis.

He completely revamped the City's vehicle parts inventory that included negotiating a credit for excess parts. The reorganization allowed the Public Works Department to convert space previously dedicated for parts storage into an office area for the City's fleet technicians.

Czysczon will be honored at the branch's virtual awards presentation on Tuesday, Feb. 9. His nomination will then move on for consideration at the American Public Works Association's Chicago Chapter level later this year.
