The Kane County SWAT team will be conducting sniper training starting at 4 a.m. Tuesday, March 23 at the Prairie Green Preserve, located near Peck and Keslinger roads in Geneva.
The training will focus on a potential SWAT response to find an armed suspect that is hiding in the Prairie Green Preserve after ambushing a police officer during a traffic stop. Designed to simulate a covert operation, the training is not expected to disrupt the adjacent neighborhoods. No vehicle sirens will be activated and live weapons will not be fired.
Prairie Green Preserve will be closed to the public to ensure the safety of emergency responders. Signage will be posted at each trailhead, and safety officers wearing marked reflective vests will be on hand to direct visitors away from the exercise, which is expected to be completed by 7 a.m.
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office and Geneva Police Department appreciate the public’s understanding as officers participate in this important training exercise.
