[ARCHIVED] Geneva Police Determine Armed Person Report Unfounded

Police News - New Car

Geneva Police responding to a report of a potentially armed person inside a home Oct. 5 in the 200 block of Lineas Lane have deemed the incident unfounded.

A neighbor called 911 at 2:12 p.m. to report hearing screaming and yelling, followed by the sound of a single gunshot. Given the alleged safety concerns, a significant police presence, including police and fire units from Geneva, St. Charles and Batavia, responded to the 2600 block Lorraine Circle and the 200 block of Lineas Lane on the City’s west side.

Heartland Elementary School was put on a brief lockdown for 20 minutes due to the unknown nature of the situation in the early stages of the investigation. Police officers secured the area and went door-to-door to make sure neighbors stayed inside their homes.

Police did determine a domestic dispute occurred that produced the screaming and yelling overheard by the neighbor. However, the investigation concluded an unrelated construction worker using a nail gun was the source of the “gunshot” noise.

No arrests were made in the domestic dispute, and no criminal charges are pending.

The school lockdown was lifted at 3 p.m., and police were able to restore normal activity in the neighborhood by 3:24 p.m.
