[ARCHIVED] Weather Alters IDOT's Route 38 Repair Schedule

IDOT Road Construction

Update - Sept. 14

Due to inclement weather earlier in the week, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) did not start sealing cracks on Route 38 until Sept. 14. Work the remainder of the week will likely remain west of Randall Road.

Motorists should expect lane closures on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 19 and 20, along West State Street in Geneva, weather permitting. On top of the State's repair project, Kane County was scheduled to start resurfacing a section of Randall Road in St. Charles Sept. 19, which may lead to additional delays in the area.

IDOT's Route 38 highway striping also will be pushed back due to weather delays.

News Release - Sept. 6

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will seal cracks in September on Route 38 from Route 47 in Elburn to Route 31 in Geneva. The State provided the City with additional details Sept. 6 about the upcoming construction.

The project is expected to take five days with road work beginning at Route 47 on Monday, Sept. 12 and moving eastward throughout the week. Crews are scheduled to start work Thursday, Sept. 15 on West State Street from Randall Road to Williamsburg Avenue. The moving work zone will commence with the inside lanes and, once completed, transition to the outside lanes.

On Friday, Sept. 16, cracks will be sealed on State Street's diagonal parking spaces in downtown Geneva and should be finished by 8 a.m. Afterward, construction shifts back to the highway's outside traffic lanes from Williamsburg Avenue to Route 31 and will be followed by the inside lanes along that same stretch of roadway.

Motorists should expect West State Street in Geneva to be reduced to one lane in each direction during construction. Drivers may want to find alternate routes and should use caution when traveling through the work zone.

Crews will return the week of Sept. 19 to restripe Route 38, which will again feature lane closures and moving operations. The entire sealing project schedule is weather permitting.
