[ARCHIVED] Police Announce Roadside Safety Check Results

The following news release was written by the Illinois State Police:

The Illinois State Police announced the results of a Roadside Safety Check held during the late evening hours of Dec. 5, and early morning hours of Dec. 6. The detail was conducted at 1166 E. State St. District 2 State police along with officers from Geneva Police Department.

Alcohol is involved in nearly 40 percent of fatal crashes in Illinois. Roadside Safety Checks are designed to remove alcohol-impaired drivers, however, when other violations are observed such as driving with a suspended or revoked license, operating a vehicle without a valid registration or insurance, or safety belt violations, enforcement action may be taken. The following citations were issued at the safety check:

Violations Enforcement Activity
Registration offenses - 2
Driver’s license offenses - 16
Occupant restraint offenses - 3
Driving under the influence arrests - 1
Other alcohol/drug arrests - 5
Total citations/arrests - 41
Total written warnings - 6

This project was funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
