The Kane County Division of Transportation provided an update May 22 for its upcoming intersection improvement project at Western Avenue and Fabyan Parkway in Geneva.
Work will include earth excavation, roadway reconstruction, hot mix asphalt pavement, storm sewer facilities, drainage structures, and landscape restoration. The County also will reconstruct the existing multi-use path along the south side of Fabyan Parkway from Western Avenue to Route 31.
Beginning the week of May 27, construction crews will remove pavement on portions of Fabyan Parkway at Western Avenue intersection. Traffic will be reduced to one-way travel in each direction to give crews room to safely work for the duration of the project, which is expected to be finished this fall, weather permitting.
The portion of work involving pavement removal and installation of temporary pavement is expected to be complete in about two weeks, according to Kane County.
Operations will run primarily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Construction will begin on the south side of the intersection and proceed to the north side. Kane County has stressed the roadways will remain open, but lane closures and shifting traffic patterns will be required. Flaggers will be present at times to direct traffic. Additionally, the lane widths on Western Avenue will be decreased to 10 feet in each direction, and the left turn lane will be removed during construction.
