The Kautz Road reconstruction and widening project is a joint venture between the City of Geneva and St. Charles. Construction will occur from Swenson Avenue in St. Charles to just north of State Street (Route 38) in Geneva. The project will replace failing pavement, enhance freight mobility, mitigate drainage issues, complete trail connectivity, improve safety measures, and support economic development in the area.

Construction started in June 2024 and is expected to be substantially completed by the end of the year, with landscape restoration and other punch list items being finished in spring 2025.

July 12 Update

The contractor is scheduled to start pavement installation from Longest Drive to Averill Road during the week of July 15. Work also will continue with the installation of a gravel sub-base for the new roadway north of Geneva Drive along the east side of the street.

ComEd will begin relocating their utilities along the west side of the road. A new storm drainage system work will start throughout the project area.

Traffic patterns are scheduled to shift next week, but two lanes will remain open with daily flagging for traffic control.

The Averill Road closure just west of Kautz Road remains in place. After access to Averill Road is restored, the contractor is expecting to remove the center turn lane south of Pilsbury Lane to Averill Road.

All construction activities are weather-dependent.
