The Kautz Road reconstruction and widening project is a joint venture between the City of Geneva and St. Charles. Construction will occur from Swenson Avenue in St. Charles to just north of State Street (Route 38) in Geneva. The project will replace failing pavement, enhance freight mobility, mitigate drainage issues, complete trail connectivity, improve safety measures, and support economic development in the area.

Construction started in June 2024 and is expected to be substantially completed by the end of the year, with landscape restoration and other punch list items being finished in spring 2025.

July 18 Update

The contractor did shift the Kautz Road closure July 16. The southbound lane south of Pilsbury Lane is now open, and the center lane has been shut down. The City expects the contractor to remove asphalt from the center lane Friday, July 19 and restore the surface at the end of the following week.

ComEd was scheduled to begin relocating utilities but work was delayed due to the power agency responding to storm outages earlier in the week.

The primary work the next the next two weeks will be the installation of a new storm sewer.

Averill Road is now open at Kautz Road for right turns only. Eastbound traffic on Averill Road will be directed southbound on Kautz Road only. No left turn to head north is available at the intersection.

All construction activities are weather-dependent.
