[ARCHIVED] Route 38 Road Construction To Start This Spring

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will be resurfacing Route 38 from the western border of Kane County to First Street in downtown Geneva this spring.

The project is anticipated to start in late March or early April and is expected to conclude in June. The start date is weather dependent and will be announced in the near future. Construction is slated to begin on the west end of the work zone first and eventually progress east into Geneva.

Motorists should expect temporary lane and parking closures on State Street (Route 38) once crews reach Geneva. Two lanes (one in each direction) will remain open for drivers at all times on State Street, but people wanting to avoid the construction zone can take Fabyan Parkway as an alternate route.

A majority of the work in downtown Geneva is expected to take place during the evening, primarily between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Other construction activities will include street patching, raising manhole covers and curb improvements. Motorists should take note there will be additional truck traffic on Route 38 as construction materials are delivered from West Chicago to the job site.

Geneva will be providing regular construction updates so people can plan their commute accordingly. Visit the City’s project webpage at www.geneva.il.us/Rt38construction and subscribe to receive information via email or text messages.

The City is reaching out to businesses that may be impacted by the construction zone to make sure they are aware of the project. People also are invited to a Route 38 construction meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 16 in the City Hall Council Chambers, 109 James St. Geneva’s Public Works Department staff and the IDOT contractor will provide a project overview and answer audience questions.

People who have additional questions about the construction can contact Brian Schiber, Geneva’s Assistant Director of Public Works, at 630-232-1501 or at bschiber@geneva.il.us.
