The City flag at Geneva City Hall has been lowered in memory of former Fire Chief Frank Johnson, 85, who died Dec. 16.
Born in 1939 in Geneva, Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Navy from 1958-62. Following his military service, he returned home to begin a distinguished career in 1966 with the Geneva Fire Department, rising through the ranks to lieutenant (1970), captain (1974) and Fire Chief (1980). Chief Johnson led the Geneva Fire Department for 16 years before retiring in 1996.
"The Fire Department and the community of Geneva held a special place in Frank's heart, and he was a beloved member of both," his obituary stated. "His contributions to the (Fire) Department and to the town shaped the lives of many and left a lasting impact."
The City flag will remain lowered until Monday, Dec. 23.
The City of Geneva extends its condolences to the Johnson family and friends on their loss.
