5/14 UPDATE: A City contractor was able to restore phone and Internet connections to four Geneva Community Unit School District 304 buildings after fiber optic cables were accidentally cut through on Randall Road May 13.

The City's Public Works Department's Electric Division brought in contractors quickly after the incident took place. Crews worked well into the night and were able to provide a temporary fix in less than 12 hours to restore service at Geneva Middle School North, Geneva Middle School South, Fabyan Elementary School and Friendship Station Preschool.

The City will work with District 304 to schedule a convenient time to conduct a more permanent repair to not further impact school operations.

A construction crew accidentally cut through underground fiber optic cables May 13 while working on the Randall Road traffic signalization project near Christina Lane.

The incident has disrupted phone and Internet service at Geneva Middle School North, Geneva Middle School South and Fabyan Elementary School, according to Geneva Community Unit School District 304.

Crews still are assessing damage to the fiber cables, but a preliminary estimate for service restoration could be between two to four days.
