[ARCHIVED] UPDATE: Road Work To Limit Route 38 Street Parking At Night

UPDATE: IDOT's contractor has postponed the planned overnight construction work on Route 38 between Seventh and First streets May 19-20. The overnight work is tentatively rescheduled for June 3 and 4.

In the meantime, parking along West State Street will not be impacted until after the Memorial Day holiday. Please sign up for our Route 38 construction updates at the link below.

As the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Route 38 construction rolls into downtown Geneva this week, parking along West State Street will be limited during overnight hours.

IDOT’s contractor was grinding pavement from Randall Road to Grant Street last week. Weather permitting, crews will continue those milling operations from:

• May 18 – Grant to Seventh streets
• May 19 – Seventh to Fourth streets (overnight)
• May 20 – Fourth to First streets (overnight)

Parking on West State Street will remain open during the day with road work taking place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting May 19. Visitors heading downtown in the evening should monitor “no parking” restrictions, which will be in effect from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., along various segments of the highway.

Throughout the project, work from Anderson Boulevard to First Street will primarily occur during overnight hours to alleviate the impact on the downtown business community. Construction from Bricher Road to Anderson Boulevard is being performed during the day due to the proximity of residential homes along Route 38.

Motorists should expect daily lane closures throughout the project, which is expected to be finished by August. Two lanes (one in each direction) will remain open for drivers at all times on West State Street, but people wanting to avoid the construction zone can take Fabyan Parkway as an alternate route.

The overall IDOT project calls for resurfacing Route 38 from western Kane County to Route 31 in downtown Geneva.

Geneva will be providing construction updates so people can plan their commute accordingly. Visit the City’s project webpage at and subscribe to receive information via email or text messages.

People who have additional questions about the construction can contact Brian Schiber, Geneva’s Assistant Director of Public Works, at 630-232-1501 or at
