The Geneva Police Department was awarded a $5,000 grant by Union Pacific to help promote safety around the City’s Third Street railroad crossing.
The money was presented to Geneva in large part to the attention police have given the past year monitoring motorist and pedestrian traffic around the train station and taking enforcement action as required.
In all $15,000 was distributed at Metra’s Board of Directors meeting Nov. 11 to seven communities to support youth education activities, school or community safety days, community safety blitzes, grade crossing educational enforcement activities and railroad safety advocacy.
