[ARCHIVED] Geneva Police Conducting Death Investigation

Responding to a well-being check, the Geneva Police Department discovered a man deceased Jan. 28 in his home located at 39 Crissey Ave.

Police were dispatched to the home at 6:19 p.m. after receiving the well-being request from an external source who is not being identified at this time. Upon their arrival, Geneva police officers found Eduardo Gutierrez, 53 (M/W), deceased within the residence.

Gutierrez’s wife, who also was home at the time, was provided medical attention as standard protocol. She was later transported to a local hospital for additional evaluation.

After discovering the body, Geneva Police obtained a search warrant for the residence. With the assistance of the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force, the warrant was executed at about 2:30 a.m. Jan. 29.

Due to the unknown cause of death, this case is being classified as a death investigation. The Geneva Police Department does not have anyone in custody at this time. Police are confident there is no danger to the public in relation to the investigation.

An autopsy is being conducted this morning by the Kane County Coroner’s Office.

At this time, there is no other information available. Questions should be directed to Geneva Police Commander Julie Nash at 630-232-4736 or via email at
