Officers from the Geneva Police Department, with assistance of the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force, are conducting a death investigation after a man was found deceased in his home at 39 Crissey Ave.

At around 6:19 p.m. Jan. 28, Geneva police officers responded to the home after receiving a request for a well-being check from a person who is not being identified at this time. Police do say the call was placed by someone who was not inside the home. When gaining entry, officers found Eduardo Gutierrez, 53, deceased within his residence.

Gutierrez’s wife, who also was home at the time, was provided medical attention as standard protocol. She was later transported to a local hospital for additional evaluation.

After discovering the body, Geneva Police obtained a search warrant for the residence. With the assistance of the County’s Major Crimes Task Force, the warrant was executed at about 2:30 a.m. Jan. 29.

Due to the unknown cause of death, this case is being classified as a death investigation. An autopsy is being conducted this morning by the Kane County Coroner’s Office.

The Geneva Police Department is confident there is no danger to the public in relation to the investigation. There is no one in custody at this time.
