[ARCHIVED] Moore House Depicted On City's Pewter Ornament

2016 Pewter Ornament

Geneva is well-known for its unique shopping experience, and the home that helped create the vision of Third Street is featured on the City’s newest pewter ornament now available for purchase.

The 2016 ornament depicts the Moore House – now home to The Little Traveler – on the front and history of the building on the back. The ornament is being sold for $12 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday at City Hall, 22 S. First St. People can also visit the City’s website at www.geneva.il.us and click “Shop The Geneva Store.” (link below)

The original Italianate Victorian home was built by banker A.B. Moore in 1862 at 404 S. Third St. The property was sold in 1919 to Edmund and Kate Raftery, whose interest in unusual imported items from across the globe led her to open a shop in 1922.

Named The Little Traveler in 1925, the family business has grown considerably from the original residence, which now serves as the center section of the 36-room store. The venture became the foundation for Geneva’s charming historic downtown, spurring other individually-owned specialty shops to open along the City’s now famous Third Street shopping district.

This is the seventh year Geneva has sold its traditional pewter ornament to the community. Previous editions have featured the City logo, City Hall, Pure Oil Building, Loveday House and Patten House.

The City also sells other Geneva-themed merchandise, including bracelets, picture frames, golf balls with tees, tote bags and more. Quantities are limited. For more information, call Sherri Weitl at 630-232-7494.
