Nov. 8 News Announcement

The City has contracted with Encap Inc. to conduct a controlled burn at Friday, Nov. 11 at the Prairie Green Preserve on Geneva's west side.

The burn is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at the preserve's wetland areas, which are located near Keslingler and Peck roads. The event will produce a fair amount of smoke in the sky. Rest assured the fire will be managed by professionals and only will be conducted if weather conditions are optimal. Adjacent residents have been notified via a letter of the controlled burn.

Prairie Green Preserve is a 580-acre publicly-owned prairie/wetland restoration and passive recreation site in Geneva. The preserve currently consists of 100 acres of planted prairie, 80 acres of wetlands and associated buffers and drainage courses, 1.25 miles of hiking and biking trails (a total of 4 miles are planned), and more than 300 acres of agricultural land in active farming use.

If the controlled burn is rescheduled, we will provide another update on our website. For more information about the burn, call the Geneva Public Works Department at 630-232-1501.
