The Geneva Police Department and Illinois State Police will conduct a joint roadside safety check in Kane County the weekend of June 16.
Officers working on the roadside safety check will be watching for drivers in violation of operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, failing to properly wear a safety belt or child restraint, driving with a suspended or revoked license, transporting open alcoholic beverages, driving under the influence, along with any other vehicle code and criminal violations.
Alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in more than 30 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois and throughout the United States. Nearly 10,000 people die each year due to alcohol-impaired driving.
Roadside safety checks are designed to keep our community safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road and having officers watch for safety violations. The checkpoint is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
