What is the process once I have applied and how long does the selection process take?: The length of each hiring process will vary, but the intent is to move as quickly as possible. After the application deadline, the process may take two to three weeks before interviews are scheduled. You should receive notice from the City regarding your status or when you are no longer under consideration within four weeks of the application deadline.

1. How do I find out about current job openings with the City of Geneva?: All positions are advertised on the City’s Job Opportunities Page. If you are interested in a position that is not currently open and would like to be informed when we are accepting applications for that position, visit our Notify Me module and select "City Job Postings." You will be notified by email if any positions become available.

2. How do I apply for a job with the City of Geneva?: All open positions are posted on the City's Job Opportunities Page. Paper applications are accepted at City Hall 22 S. First St., Geneva, IL 60134.

If you do not have access to a computer with internet service, please visit the Geneva Public Library.

3. May I apply for positions that are not currently posted?: No. We only accept applications and resumes for open posted positions.

4. Can my resume be used in place of the online application?: No. It is important that your application displays all of your experience and education. You can attach your resume, but you must also complete all sections of the application, especially the work and education fields. Incomplete applications may be rejected.

6. Is there a job description for the position?: Job descriptions for open positions are typically available when the job announcement is posted. If the job description is not attached to the job announcement and you would like a copy, please contact Human Resources by email or call 630-232-0867.

7. What if I am not selected?: All applicants will be informed of the decision reached. Applicants who are eliminated and not given an interview will be notified via email as soon as possible. Applicants who receive an interview and are not selected will be given a phone call. Do not be discouraged if you are not selected for a position. Please continue to reapply for future jobs with the City of Geneva.

8. If I want to apply for multiple positions, do I have to submit the application for each position?: Yes. You must submit a separate application for each posted position in which you are interested.

9. What type of new hire employment screening is completed upon job offer?: Post-offer screening may take between three to six weeks before an employee starts a new job with the City. Employment screening includes a background check, physical, and drug screen. Police and Fire related job opportunities may require additional screening measures, such as a polygraph exam. Other positions of a confidential or financial nature may be subject to a credit history check and confidentiality agreement.

10. What benefits do employees receive?: Fringe benefit summaries for all bargaining unit and non-bargaining unit positions may be found online.
