No one was injured after a townhome was damaged by a fire Feb. 12 in the 2000 block of Vanderbilt Drive on the west side of Geneva.
The Geneva Fire Department was dispatched at 5:13 p.m. to a two-story, multi-unit townhome for a report of a garage fire.
Upon arrival, Geneva fire companies found light smoke showing from the two-car attached garage. The garage sprinkler system had activated and helped hold the fire in check prior to the fire department’s arrival.
Firefighters brought the fire under control in less than 20 minutes.
All occupants of the townhome had self-evacuated before firefighters arrived.
The fire originated in the garage, and the cause is under investigation. The rest of the townhome remains habitable.
Firefighters from St. Charles, Batavia, and Elburn & Countryside assisted Geneva crews at the scene.
The West Chicago Fire Protection District provided station coverage during the incident. Additional support was provided by the Geneva Police Department.
