City Approves Record Low Property Tax Rate

City News Posted on December 17, 2025

The Geneva City Council approved a property tax rate decrease at its Dec. 15 meeting, setting the City on course for the lowest municipal property tax rate in 45 years.

The approved 2025 tax levy - covering property taxes paid in 2026 - reduces the City’s tax rate by 4.42%, from 0.4787 to 0.4575. This decrease comes even as property values continue to rise across Geneva.

What Does This Mean For Homeowners?

The lower tax rate is expected to result in approximately $30 in savings for the owner of a $450,000 home.

This milestone reflects Geneva’s continued commitment to responsible financial management while maintaining the high-quality public services residents expect. Based on City records dating back to 1980, the approved levy establishes the lowest City property tax rate on record.
