[ARCHIVED] City Accepting Applications For Historic Preservation Commission

Historic Preservation - Downtown

Have an interest in preserving history? The City of Geneva is looking for a dedicated resident volunteer to fill an upcoming opening on the Historic Preservation Commission.

The advisory body is tasked with maintaining the authentic architectural character and historic integrity of properties within the Geneva Historic District as well as individual historic landmark properties throughout the City. The seven-member body makes recommendations and determinations based on the City’s historic preservation ordinance; the U.S. Secretary of Interior’s (SOI) Standards for Rehabilitation; design guidelines for historic properties; and other policies adopted by the City Council. Typically, the Historic Preservation Commission meets at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month.

Residents interested in serving on the Historic Preservation Commission should submit an application along with a letter of interest by Wednesday, April 1 to Mayor Kevin Burns, Geneva City Hall, 22 S. First St., Geneva, IL 60134. The envelope should include a reference to the Historic Preservation Commission.

Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements in order to be considered for the position:

* Be a legal U.S. citizen;
* Live in Geneva for a minimum of one year;
* Be a registered voter;
* Have no felony convictions; and
* Be current on taxes and payments to the City.

Mayor Burns will review all the applications and bring forward a nomination to the City Council.

An application and more information about the Historic Preservation Commission can be found on the City’s website. Questions can be directed to Preservation Planner Michael Lambert at 630-938-4541 or via email.
