[ARCHIVED] Lakeshore Considering Potential Service Level Changes

Lakeshore Recycling Systems Garbage Truck

Lakeshore Recycling Systems announced potential modifications for its recycling, yard waste and bulk goods collection services in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

The City’s waste hauler has been experiencing some driver shortages but currently is providing services at a normal or near-normal level. The company sent a letter to the City March 20 outlining some contingency plans that may be enacted soon. Given the rapidly changing nature of this pandemic, the public is encouraged to check the City’s website for the latest updates on the City’s coronavirus web page.

Lakeshore may suspend the collection of bulk and white goods until further notice. Bulk items are objects that are too large to fit into a garbage cart or can, such as a mattress; white goods are appliances. Lakeshore crews may not pick up these items – even if a refuse sticker is attached – set out with garbage.

Another potential change would include recycling and yard waste pickups potentially being comingled with garbage, according to Lakeshore. Residents should keep separating their items in designated Lakeshore carts or brown paper yard waste bags.

Brush Collection

Kramer Tree Specialists, the City’s brush collection vendor, still plans to conduct its monthly pickups as normal beginning in April. Program regulations, a schedule and more details are available on the City’s website.

Household Hazardous Waste

Kane County has suspended its regional household hazardous waste front door collection service, which Geneva is a participating partner. For more information, visit the County’s website.

The latest health alerts can be found at the Centers for Disease Control website, the Illinois Department of Public Health’s (IDPH) website or the Kane County Health Department website. IDPH also has established a Coronavirus hotline at 800-889-3931 and email address.
