Due to inclement weather and equipment failure, the City's third/final curbside leaf collection operations have slowed down considerably.
Despite the delays, the City intends to have the contractor finish the third collection for all zones.
Work continues in Zone C the week of Dec. 4, and the revised schedule and full leaf program update can be found on the City's website.
Leaf Bag Program
Residents can still bag any remaining leaves for free starting the week of Dec. 4. Leaves should be placed in brown yard waste bags. Waste stickers are not required, but bags must only contain leaves. Yard waste, mulch or grass clippings mixed with leaves will not be accepted.
Bags can be set outside with the garbage on residents’ regular refuse collection day throughout December.
The final pickup will be the week of Dec. 25, which will be one day later than normal due to the Christmas holiday.
Leave The Leaves
Another option for residents to consider is to mulch or keep their leaves as a natural resource. Leaves are a free, carbon-rich fertilizer for lawns and planting beds. They also can serve as a winter habitat for a variety of insects and animals.
Even just a portion of leaves left in place each fall can make a difference. Learn more at the Kane County Recycles website.
