[ARCHIVED] ComEd Service Disruptions Impacting Geneva

Light Switch Electric Power

Geneva has experienced numerous momentary power outages during the past several weeks, which have stemmed from issues related to ComEd power lines.

While the City of Geneva owns and operates its own electric utility, ComEd power lines feed the City’s substations. Geneva interconnects with ComEd to allow the City to receive energy purchased from its regional service transmission provider, PJM.

ComEd has informed the City the recent west side service disruptions, which last less than one minute, have been caused by trees and wildlife. Storms and high winds have knocked down tree branches into electric lines, and an animal was found inside a ComEd substation.

The City’s Public Works Department Electric Division has been working with ComEd reliability teams to pinpoint the causes of the outage and trim/remove tree branches where needed in Geneva. The ComEd power lines run many miles from the company’s substations in Kane and DuPage counties to Geneva, which requires plenty of ground for ComEd to cover.

For more information about Geneva’s electric utility, visit the City’s website or call the Public Works Electric Division at 630-232-1503.
