[ARCHIVED] Man Charged Following Disturbance At Train Depot

Police News - New Car

A homeless man was arrested July 1 following a public disturbance on Third Street near the Geneva Train Station.

Jeremie R. Harris, 46, who last lived in North Aurora, has been charged with aggravated assault (a Class A misdemeanor) and disorderly conduct – breach of peace (a Class C misdemeanor).

Multiple 911 calls were made at 12:09 p.m. with conflicting information involving an “armed man” dressed in all black wearing a ski mask and black gloves. The man was allegedly approaching cars aggressively and alarming motorists on Third Street near Crescent Place. Some callers said shots may have been fired while others reported Harris was allegedly holding a cell phone “like a handgun.”

Geneva Police and the Kane County Sheriff’s Office arrived at 12:12 p.m., and Harris was arrested without incident. The preliminary investigation did not uncover any weapons; however, Harris did have two cell phones. Harris told police he was listening to music and acting out the lyrics from the song.

Upon investigation at the scene, victims and witnesses stated Harris allegedly was holding a cell phone like a gun while wearing a ski mask and gloves. Multiple victims believed they were going to be carjacked and quickly sped away. Other callers were startled by Harris’ behavior.

After the charges were announced, Harris was released from jail at 2 p.m.

Geneva Police would like to thank the public who remained on the scene to point out Harris’ location, which helped peacefully resolve a hectic situation. Geneva Police also thank the Kane County Sheriff’s Office for its quick response.
