There were no injuries after a commercial business was damaged by a fire July 22 in the 100 block of Hamilton Street in Geneva’s downtown district.
The Geneva Fire Department was dispatched at 6:45 a.m. to the two-story former residence for a report of smoke inside the building.
Firefighters found smoke showing from the second floor and upgraded the response to a general alarm. Additionally, a working fire response was requested to bring additional resources to the scene.
An interior fire attack was initiated and brought the fire under control in less than 20 minutes.
The preliminary origin of the fire was determined to be in the front interior of the business, but the cause remains under investigation. The building’s interior received extensive smoke and heat damage.
Firefighters from St. Charles, Batavia, Elburn, and West Chicago assisted Geneva at the scene.
The Fermilab and North Aurora fire departments filled in the Geneva fire stations and stood by to respond to additional calls in the community.
