[ARCHIVED] William Malecki Appointed New 5th Ward Alderperson

City News

The Geneva City Council approved Mayor Kevin Burns’ appointment of William Malecki to fill the vacant 5th Ward alderperson seat during a Nov. 18 meeting.

Alderperson Malecki has served on the City’s Strategic Plan Advisory Committee since 2018. The committee is tasked with prioritizing community goals outlined in the City’s strategic plan, encouraging citizen input and assisting with goal implementation.

Malecki was one of five residents who applied for the City Council vacancy.

“With thanks to Alderpersons Robert Swanson and Mike Bruno for participating in the selection process and the City Council’s unanimous approval of Mr. Malecki’s nomination, the 5th Ward in particular and Geneva overall is well served,” Mayor Burns said.

Alderperson Malecki and his family moved to Geneva in 2003. He has been an employee and now vice president of a local construction company for the last 20 years.

“I have closely followed how our City functions and am humbled that I now have the opportunity to not only be part of the decision-making process but, most importantly, to be a representative of the residents and stakeholders in the ward,” Alderperson Malecki said. “I plan on being a voice on the City Council for my neighbors, who I continue to meet with on a regular basis.”

Alderperson Malecki’s appointment carries through May 5, 2025, and the seat will be open for the 2025 consolidated election. He is replacing former 5th Ward Alderperson Craig Maladra, who announced his resignation Sept. 16 after serving 21 years on the City Council.

Residents can contact Alderperson Malecki by calling 630-232-0000, Ext. 4009 or sending an email.
