Nicor will be replacing natural gas mains in Geneva with construction scheduled to begin around Thursday, May 8 on the west side of the Fox River. The company has not announced a start date for planned work on the east side
The City has created a project web page detailing the various areas where Nicor will be replacing gas mains. Construction and installation will be primarily completed through underground boring, but will also involve some pavement cutting and road closures. Work is expected to be completed in the next four to five months, weather permitting.
Nicor will mail a flyer to impacted homes and businesses about the upcoming work to be performed by the company or its contractors. The project will require sewer line inspections, utility markings, and location identification for the new natural gas line and meter. Once the gas main and line are installed, Nicor will schedule an appointment with property owners to connect to the new infrastructure. Landscape restoration will occur following construction.
While the City of Geneva is providing information to the community, the City has no authority or control over Nicor's project. The details shared by the City are only as good as the information provided to us by Nicor.
