Nicor Gas Main Replacement

Nicor Gas Main Replacement MapNicor started replacing natural gas mains in Geneva with construction in May 2025 on the west side of the Fox River. The project will continue into 2026 along Second Street.

Construction on the last four remaining project areas is scheduled to resume in early March at the following intersections, with digging taking place underneath the sidewalk and parkways.

  • Southeast corner of James and Third streets
  • Southeast corner of Fulton and Second streets (project will also impact the roadway)
  • Northwest and southwest corners of Fulton and Third Streets

Sidewalk access may be limited at the listed intersections, and pedestrians should be mindful of the work zones. The project is anticipated to be completed by the end of March, weather permitting.

Improvements on natural gas infrastructure began in September and were completed in the fall 2025.

Construction and installation will be primarily completed through underground boring, but will also involve some pavement cutting and road closures.

Nicor mailed flyers to impacted homes and businesses (west side and east side) about the upcoming work to be performed by the company or its contractors. The project requires sewer line inspections, utility markings, and location identification for the new natural gas line and meter. Once the gas main and line are installed, Nicor will schedule an appointment with property owners to connect to the new infrastructure. Landscape restoration will occur following construction.

Residents are responsible for marking private utility lines, such as a sprinkler system.
