Division Street Water Main Project

Division Street Water Main Detour MapThe City of Geneva will replace a water main on Division Street this fall, with the construction zone spanning from Route 25 to East Side Drive.

In 2023, the City completed a water main crossing at Route 25 and Division Street in preparation for the full replacement project, which is scheduled to start the week of Sept. 22 with equipment mobilization and marking utility locations. Construction was originally anticipated to be finished in late November but had to be extended into 2026 due to inclement weather.

The existing water main, located on the north side of Division Street, will be replaced with new infrastructure on the south side. Construction will primarily take place on the south side of the roadway, which will require traffic lane closures to accommodate the project. Drivers also may encounter minor traffic disruptions at East Side Drive and Division Street. Route 25 is not expected to be impacted.

Division Street will remain open for local traffic only. A detour route will be established directing motorists into St. Charles by heading:

  • North on Second Place
  • West on Moore Avenue
  • South on Seventh Place, which turns into East Side Drive in Geneva

The detour will be reversed for drivers heading north on East Side Drive.

Water service will remain on for residents during most of the construction. The lone exception will be when homes are connected to the new water main. The City will provide at least two days’ advanced notice before the scheduled outages, which are expected to last less than four hours.

The City will send letters to area residents about the upcoming construction. The City's engineering consultant, Hampton, Lenzini and Renwick (HLR), will provide inspection services and keep neighbors informed about the scheduled water connections.

Looking Ahead

After the City of Geneva's water main construction is completed, the City of St. Charles is anticipated to replace its own water main along Division Street in 2026. Road resurfacing is tentatively scheduled for 2027.
