Geneva Construction, a City contractor, will be working on the 2025 Street Program, which will include resurfacing 19 residential roadways in the community. Other program projects will include Third Street pavement patching, Hamilton Street parking lot reconstruction, James Street parking reconfiguration, pavement markings and drainage repairs. A map and project locations can be found online.
May 15 Update
The Third Street patching projects have gotten underway this week with saw cutting and removing concrete from James to Campbell streets. A project map outlines the downtown road closure.
Crews were expected to pour the new concrete May 15. Once poured, the surface will need several days to cure. The City hopes to reopen Third Street early next week, weather permitting.
James Street remains open, but drivers are not permitted to turn south on Third Street. Sidewalks are available to downtown patrons.
Several parking spaces on the west side of Third Street near the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, Niche Restaurant and the U.S. Post Office also are closed for pavement patching. Saw-cutting has occurred, but crews are scheduled to pour the new surface Wednesday, May 21. Parking in this section will be prohibited until the area has had time to cure.
Third Street traffic lanes in both directions are open from State (Route 38) to James streets.
The remainder of Downtown Third Street is open for cars and parking.
Outside of the downtown, digging will occur the week of May 19 near storm catch basins along Lewis Road for a grout replacement project. The roadway will remain open to traffic, but sawhorses will be present near each basin. The improvements are being made to prevent sinkholes.
Sidewalk and curb replacement began this week and will continue into mid-June.
Finally, construction crews started filling in roadway cracks beginning in the Pepper Valley subdivision this week. Streets remain open during construction, but this moving operation may cause some temporary traffic delays. This project phase is anticipated to be finished in mid-June.
The entire schedule is weather permitting and subject to change.
