Commuter Parking Lots To Reopen After Third Main Line Project Finished

City News Posted on August 14, 2025

Two Geneva commuter parking lots will reopen Friday, Aug. 15, following substantial completion of Union Pacific’s Third Main Line project.

The Route 31 overflow parking lot, located south of the railroad overpass, will be available for daily fee parking. The rate will be $1.75 per day, and customers can use the Passport mobile app to make payments.

The Geneva Train Depot parking lot, south of the tracks and west of Third Street, will be reopened for quarterly commuter parking permit holders. A three-month permit costs $100 for Geneva residents and $125 for non-residents.

The parking lots have been closed since 2022 during the construction of a third railroad track on the UP/Metra West Line from Kress Road in West Chicago through Geneva. The track was completed this summer, and trains have been operating on the new line for the past month.

Union Pacific crews may still be working along the railway as they close out minor punch list items related to the project.
