Geneva Police BBQ Lunch Raises Money For Special Olympics

Police & Fire News Posted on September 12, 2025

Geneva businesses looking for lunch ideas Thursday, Sept. 25, can participate in the Geneva Police Department's 17th annual Josef's BBQ for Special Olympics.

The lunch includes a BBQ pork sandwich, cole slaw, chips, and cookie that will be delivered by a Geneva police officer at 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m. or noon Sept. 25 to a Geneva business address. Orders, which cost $11 per person, can be placed by Tuesday, Sept. 23, with Geneva Police Sgt. Mark Russo by calling 630-232-4736 or sending him an email.

While deliveries cannot be made to individual homes, residents interested in supporting this cause can purchase this lunch option in person Sept. 25 at Josef's Meats & Deli, 716 W. State St., Suite A.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Special Olympics Illinois.

The lunch also honors the memory of former Geneva Police Officer Keith Koza, who started an annual pig roast in 2008 to raise money for Special Olympics. Koza continued the tradition the following year while fighting cancer that ultimately took his life shortly after the fundraiser.

The lunch is one of the fundraising platforms for the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which is a collaborative effort from officers across the nation to raise money for Special Olympics.

The Geneva Police Department appreciates the public’s support for this worthy mission.
