Geneva Curbside Leaf Program Completed In January

City News Posted on December 19, 2025 | Last Updated on January 12, 2026

Update

The City's contractor finished the City's curbside leaf collection on Jan. 12 for homes that did not receive their third and final pickup in the fall.

The leaf program was halted Thanksgiving weekend after a significant snowfall during the third and final pickup. Crews attempted to restart operations in late December but had to stop again due to inclement weather. Work resumed Jan. 7 after another weather window opened up this winter.

Thank you for your patience as the City and contractor navigated a difficult start to the winter season.

Original Post

The City of Geneva’s curbside leaf program is scheduled to resume the week of Dec. 29 after a recent thaw has melted most of the early winter snow. However, operations will be weather-dependent with the forecast calling for rain this weekend, followed by temperatures dropping below freezing.

The City and contractor will be monitoring weather conditions and may need to adjust the schedule accordingly. Updates will be posted on the program web page.

The remaining curbside collection is limited to residents who did not receive their third pickup.

The final sweep will not be broken out into zones, so residents should have their leaves raked to the parkway by 7 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29. The curbside program should be finished by Friday, Jan. 2, weather permitting.

The City’s contractor completed two-thirds of the final pickup route when a 9-inch snowstorm buried leaf piles Nov. 29. Additional snowfall and colder temperatures originally prompted the City to suspend operations until spring. Given the recent stretch of milder weather, the City and contractor hope to restart operations this month.

Leaf Bag Program

All Geneva residents can bag any remaining leaves for free during the week of Dec. 22.

Leaves should be placed in brown yard waste bags. Waste stickers are not required, but bags must only contain leaves. Yard waste, mulch or grass clippings mixed with leaves will not be accepted.

Bags should be set outside with the garbage on residents’ refuse collection day, which will be one day later than usual due to the Christmas holiday.
