[ARCHIVED] City Meetings Going Virtual Due To COVID-19 Outbreak

Council Chambers

Geneva’s City Council and other City advisory boards and commissions will resume conducting City business using virtual meeting technology to comply with the Governor’s “stay at home” order.

The City Council is scheduled to meet remotely at 7 p.m. Monday, April 20 through the “Go To Meeting” platform. The meeting can be watched on Geneva Broadcast Network, which can be found on Comcast Ch. 10, AT&T U-Verse Ch. 99 and livestreamed on the City’s YouTube channel.

Individuals desiring to comment during a live meeting will find a “Go To Meeting” link and instructions at the top of the meeting agenda. However, as the meeting will be livestreamed, people are encouraged to submit comments in advance by email or by hard copy dropped off in the utility bill payment box located in the alley outside of Geneva City Hall, 22 S. First St. Comments should be sent by noon on the day of the meeting. Submitted comments will not be read during the meeting but will be published in the City’s online Agenda Center before the meeting.

The City has created a detailed online fact sheet on how to properly submit written/electronic comments.

Future City meetings, which will be posted on the City’s Agenda Center and online calendar, also will be conducted through “Go To Meeting.” People will again be offered the same outlets to offer public comment as outlined above. The next meeting will be the Historic Preservation Commission, which will be broadcast live on Geneva Broadcast Network starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 21.

As a reminder, past meetings can be watched On Demand via the City’s YouTube channel.

Local municipalities are allowed to meet electronically pursuant to the Governor’s executive order that suspended the Illinois Open Meetings Act requiring in-person attendance of public bodies for the duration of the gubernatorial disaster proclamation.
