[ARCHIVED] Geneva To Start Sidewalk/Curb Improvement Work

Sidewalk

Geneva Construction, a City contractor, will be working on the 2025 Street Program, which includes resurfacing 19 residential roadways in the community. Additional improvements involve pavement patching on Third Street, reconstruction of the Hamilton Street parking lot, reconfiguration of James Street parking, updated pavement markings, and drainage repairs. A project map and list of locations are available online.

July 31 Update

Sidewalk Replacement

The City will start its annual sidewalk and curb maintenance improvements throughout Geneva with concrete saw cutting beginning late this week. Portions of sidewalks/curbs marked with white paint will be removed and replaced this summer.

The City will notify impacted residents about sidewalk work occurring in their neighborhood. The process involves removing the old squares (Aug. 4-6), setting forms & pouring new concrete (Aug. 6-9), and smoothing out the new surface, which will need five days to cure. On some streets, sidewalk replacement will disrupt residential driveway access, requiring people to park their cars on the street until the new surface is ready. The work may extend into the week of Aug. 11.

A sidewalk and curb improvements map also is available to view on the City's Street Program web page.

Pavement Striping

Pavement striping is ongoing for various streets that were recently resurfaced. When pavement striping does occur, motorists can expect temporary lane closures for application and for the paint to dry.

Hamilton Street Parking Lot

The parking lot reconstruction on the southwest corner of River Lane and Hamilton Street has been completed.

Crews also will be finishing punch list items and parkway restoration projects in the coming weeks. The City is expecting the entire 2025 Street Program to be wrapped up by mid-August.

All schedules are subject to change due to weather or other factors.
