Geneva’s City facilities will remain closed to the public throughout April following the Governor’s decision to extend the state’s stay at home order to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
The City continues to provide public safety and essential services to the community; however, due to reduced staffing levels, there may be a delay in responding to non-emergency inquiries. Given the ever-changing nature of the outbreak, people can find the latest details on the City’s COVID-19 response web page.
The City’s Community Development Department is reviewing permits and development applications, but turnaround times may be longer than normal. The department’s submission requirements are available online. Questions can be directed to the City’s Building Division at 630-262-0280.
The Geneva City Council and Committee of the Whole meeting scheduled for Monday, April 6 has been cancelled. The City’s Planning & Zoning Commission also will not meet in April. Stay tuned to the City’s coronavirus response page or website calendar for changes to other advisory board meetings this month.
The April 25 Earth Day Celebration sponsored by the City’s Natural Resources Committee and Geneva Park District has been cancelled. The event may be rescheduled in the future.
Residents should call 911 in an emergency. Non-emergency matters can be reported to the City online by clicking the “Report A Concern” button on the City’s website or by calling Geneva City Hall at 630-232-7494. Since the City’s online request tracker is not monitored 24 hours a day, residents needing to report a power outage or more urgent Public Works-related issue after-hours or on weekends should call the Geneva Police Department’s non-emergency number at 630-232-4736. Police will then dispatch the appropriate on-call City staff to address the problem.
To keep first-responders safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Geneva Fire Department is no longer able to accept homemade food donations from residents. Firefighters appreciate the community’s generosity but hate to see good food go to waste. The department would prefer people to support Geneva’s merchants and restaurants who can remain open per the state. Federal and state agencies have announced financial aid and assistance programs for small businesses. The City has provided a full listing of business assistance programs and temporary municipal business accommodations via an online fact sheet.
The Governor’s extension of the “stay at home” order through Thursday, April 30 is to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. People are allowed to visit grocery stores, gas stations, doctor’s offices/hospitals, pharmacies, restaurants offering curbside service, and their workplace if it is deemed essential by the Governor’s office. Taking walks outside or working in the yard also are permitted, but residents should maintain proper social distancing from others.

The Kane County Health Department has created a COVID-19 online dashboard that can be viewed on its website. The dashboard provides a listing of confirmed cases by municipalities amongst other data categories.
