The City of Geneva will be making wastewater system improvements, including the installation of a new screening building and a new sanitary sewer crossing.
The purpose of the project is to enhance system infrastructure to continue to provide area residents and businesses with adequate treatment of wastewater flows and maintain compliance with current IEPA sewer regulations.
The project is funded, in part, with $12.9 million IEPA loan, as detailed in the project notice.
For more information, call the Geneva Public Works Department Water Division at 630-232-1551.
A new building with redundant higher-performance screening equipment will replace the single-bar screen. The new building and equipment will improve employee safety and incoming flow hydraulics, allowing for better collection system performance.
The project is expected to start in July 2026 and will take about one year to complete.
The project will replace the existing 20-inch sanitary sewer river crossing with two new 20-inch sanitary sewers to reduce the likelihood of sanitary sewer overflows. The crossing takes all sanitary flow from the west side of the City to the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The project is expected to start in April 2026 and will take about 18-24 months to complete.
